How Does the Carriere Motion Appliance Work?
The purpose of the Carriere Motion Appliance is to align the area of your top back teeth, known as the buccal segment, which includes your canines to molars. The appliance attaches the canine tooth and first molar on both sides of your upper jaw. It is then connected to a band on your lower back molars with an elastic band on each side.
These elastic bands gently rotate and straighten your first molars. The force of the elastic bands carefully corrects your bite and alignment of your teeth. This area of your teeth tends to be difficult to align, but with the help of the Carriere Motion Appliance, your orthodontist can efficiently and safely get you on track to a straighter smile.
How Long Does Carriere Motion Appliance Treatment Take?
Carriere Motion Appliance treatment is typically completed over a period of three to six months. It is important to wear your elastics as instructed by your orthodontist to ensure the fastest treatment time. In addition to quickly and efficiently resolving misalignment, the Carriere Motion Appliance can shorten your overall treatment time by up to four months! Your orthodontist will discuss necessary treatment time for your smile when you go in for your complimentary consultation.
Is Wearing the Carriere Motion Appliance Painful?
As with any orthodontic treatment, you may feel some discomfort when your appliance is first put in place. This is completely normal as your mouth adjusts to the new appliance and its elastic bands. You may also notice some soreness in your teeth as they begin to move.
Over-the-counter painkillers, such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen, can help alleviate this soreness and discomfort. If you have any concerns about soreness or mild pain, talk to your orthodontist.
How Do You Clean the Carriere Motion Appliance?
When wearing your Carriere Motion Appliance, simply continue to brush and floss as usual. Keeping your appliance clean is key, so be sure to clean around the anchors of your Carriere Motion Appliance on your top teeth and around the elastic anchors on your bottom molars. After eating, rinse your mouth with water to keep food particles from settling around the appliance.
